I purchased this truck in 2008 to serve as a work truck around the house. It is a pretty basic truck, but that is one of the reasons I like it so much. It does need a lot of work (the pictures make it look better than it really is), but I will tackle those things as time and funds allow. Below are some pictures and brief descriptions of some of the changes I have already made. I will update this page as additional changes are made.
Photos taken the day I brought it
home. The truck is powered by a 250 inline six, backed by a th350
transmission and 12 bolt differential. Only real options are the chrome
bumper/bumper guards, rear step bumper, power steering/brakes, AM radio, and
front sway bar. The truck was purchased from a used car lot, and has had a
lot of work done to it at some point in time...unfortunately most of it is
horribly done, and with the options tag missing from the glove box, it is really
hard to tell what is original and what isn't. Obviously it has incorrect
79-80 headlight bezels on it, a newer bed and tailgate, and aftermarket wheels.
What you can't see in the pictures are the patched floors and rockers, pieced
together interior, bondo riddled body, and poor paintjob. You might be
asking why purchase a truck in such rough shape...well, the price was right and
I have enough spare parts here to make it nice with minimal out of pocket
expense. It does run and drive nice, but the transmission needs some
attention...hoping nothing a filter and fluid change won't fix.
Replaced the 79-80 headlight
bezels with 73-78 units, and swapped out the front grill assembly for an earlier
73-74 version...my personal favorite front end.
Installed the Tekstyle bed cover I
had laying around from Yeller, and had some vinyl stickers made for the back
window.
Replaced the factory step bumper
with a sport bumper. I had both front and rear bumper brackets powder
coated. I don't have a picture of it, but the tweaked front bumper was
replaced with a nicer one, with the bumper guards being eliminated at that time.
Removed the ugly (to me)
aftermarket "wagon wheels" and balding/dry rotted tires, and replaced them with
powder coated 88-98 Rally wheels, stock chrome center caps/lug covers, and
Firestone tires.
I really like the look of lowered trucks, so I went ahead and dropped this one too. Front drop consist of Western Chassis 2.5 spindles and 1.5 coils cut from the stock springs, rear drop is a Western Chassis flip kit...total drop is approximately 5/6. Both leafs springs were replaced (broken eyelet on one), and all new ball joints and tie rod ends were installed, and Doetsch Tech shocks can be found on all four corners. I also swapped the rusty hood with a cleaner/nicer one.
